The first day of summer
Monday, June 21, 2010 at 6:36PM After one of the coldest winters ever in South Florida, it feels like it's been summer for weeks already. The mercury didn't tip 90 today, but the humidity makes it impossible to go outside between noon and 5pm.
With our production manager Jenna away for two weeks, everyone else (Evan) has to pick up the slack. We're shooting the opening credits sequence for Square Grouper on Wednesday, so Dave has spent all day making an authentic reproduction of a square qrouper. Miami's own DJ Le Spam is working on composing and producing the score. Billy wrote the opening title song and the temp vocal version has been stuck in my head since Friday. Dave shot some footage of the recording sessions and we'll have a clip up soon. The Square Grouper site, designed by our friends at Policus, will be up later this week: squaregroupermovie.com.
Sam Rega continues to stitch together the Limelight/Peter Gatien documentary. We hired Sam for the job after seeing Miami Noir, his documentary about disgraced Miami commissioner Art Teele, who committed suicide in the lobby of the Miami Herald building in 2005. We've finally settled on a title, Back in the Limelight, but it's not written in stone and we're (still) welcoming suggestions.
The launch of the Miami Beach marijuana decriminalization petition drive scored some good ink last week, with John Hood penning a cover story in the SunPost. Contact Ford Bannister at the Committee for Sensible Marijuana Policy to sign the petition or learn how to get involved.
Tomorrow we'll be posting the first in a series of deleted scenes from The U, leading up to the DVD release August 17th.
That's all for now.
