Clubland takes you behind the scenes of the South Beach nightclub business, beyond the velvet rope, through the VIP lounges, past the DJ booth and right into the back office. This is the story of the money, the egos, the catfights and the controversies at the most popular nightclubs in town.

Nicola Siervo, a gregarious 39 year old native of Italy, is the consummate South Beach host.  For over a decade, Nicola has been the “face” of the most exclusive high-end lounges, restaurants and clubs during the seaside neighborhood’s Phoenix-like rise from a shabby, crime-ridden retirement community to “America’s Riviera.” He’s become a gossip column staple, hosting bold-faced names at his parties nearly every night of the season.

Nicola partnered with Roberto Caan, a fiery French financier, to open the exclusive VIP lounge Mynt.  From the start, it was the most successful venue on South Beach, boasting the highest gross per square foot of any nightclub in the neighborhood.  Nicola kept the club populated with sexy locals, millionaire playboys, fashion models and his celebrity friends while Roberto maintained the books and operated the business.

When squabbles over money drove a wedge between the two, their lucrative partnership ended.  Nicola declared his independence and announced he was opening his own brand-new club, Mokai, with new partners two blocks away from his old home at Mynt!

The season will be different for both men: Nicola is going head to head with Roberto for the coveted status as proprietor of the hottest club on the beach.

However, it won’t be easy for Nicola.  Designing, building, staffing and opening a club on South Beach is a maze fraught with pitfalls for even the most seasoned nightlife entrepreneurs.  Building the right alliances is even trickier.

Now, the small family of beach nightlife staff and entrepreneurs are going to be forced to choose sides as a nightlife war begins to brew.

Can the momentum of an A-list grand opening propel Mokai to the top of the South Beach nightlife scene?  Or will Roberto rise to the challenge and reinvent Mynt so that it retains it’s unofficial but widely acknowledged title as the toughest door on the beach?
